Use Friendly URLs in Your Section Menus and SitemapPosted at August 4, 2014
In keeping with our previous tip about managing your Friendly URLs throughout your site, we thought it would be good to highlight another huge benefit of using Friendly URLs. You already may know that you can include the Friendly URLs in the main (top) nagivation menus on your site. There is another place in your site that benefits from these URLs as well–the section menus (or “group nav” as it is often called).
Anytime you assign a Friendly URL to a page, and it is active, you’ll see its name automatically appear in the section menu. If you click on it, you’ll be taken straight to the Friendly URL rather than the underlying page ID number that you would otherwise get. No other work needed!
It works for your Site Map, too
Every SiteOrganic site includes an automated XML site map (we’ll talk more about this in a later tip). It includes all of your active/published pages. If any of these pages includes a Friendly URL (and they all should!), then the site map will use it. This helps to enhance your search engine optimization (SEO).
Tip: your sitemap is located here: www.yourdomain.org/sitemap.aspx (replace the first part with your domain name)
